בינה היא תשובהUnderstanding Is Return

binah hi teshuvahIn Gamatria ↗

Every bitterness has a sweet root it can climb back to.

Binah, Understanding, is identified with teshuvah, return. Just as Binah sweetens all the judgments and cancels their bitterness, a person's repentance repairs every flaw. Cordovero holds that the roots of even the harsh, external forces lie in Binah, so return draws spreading wrath back to its source. Repentance helps not only a person's holy side but his evil side too: every bitterness above has a sweet root. He reads God's words to Cain, 'If you do well, you will be lifted up,' as rejecting the idea that one from the side of evil has no repair. Think of return every day, so all one's days are lived in it.
