Fix it in your heart, and no other power can touch you.

A witch tried to take dust from under R. Hanina's feet, and he told her it would not work, for "there is none else besides Him" (Hullin 7b). The author explains that impure forces were given power over nature, but it is not their own. So whoever fixes in his heart that no other power exists, disregards every force, and binds his thought to the One Master alone, passes beyond their reach. He may even work wonders against nature, as R. Hanina ben Dosa did. The Patriarchs counted all powers as nothing. Moses, whose prophecy came through the name YHVH, saw them vanish altogether.
