אין עוד מלבדוThere Is None Else

From His side, all is one; the veil is for us.

"There is none else besides Him" (Deut. 4:35) is meant literally. From God's side, nothing exists at any point in any world but His simple unity, now just as before creation. Yet He concealed this, so that worlds, distinctions, and holy and impure places could appear. That is our side. The author reads Luria's tzimtzum ("contraction") not as God withdrawing to leave an empty space, but as concealment. Luria's kav ("line") is the graded chain of worlds as we perceive it. Every name and attribute in the Torah speaks from our side.
