One link always holds, so the fallen soul can climb back.

Repentance rests on how nefesh, ruach and neshamah are linked. In the worlds, the top of each joins the bottom of the one above. In the same way each soul level has ten sefirot (aspects). The highest of the nefesh holds the lowest of the ruach, the top of the ruach holds the neshamah, and the neshamah binds to the shared root of Israel's souls and on toward the Infinite: "bound in the bundle of life" (1 Sam. 25:29). Even under karet, being "cut off," only the lower nine aspects of the nefesh are severed. Its crown stays bound to the ruach, so confession spoken from the heart can raise it back.
