מזון להעולמותNourishing the Worlds
mazon la-olamotIn Gamatria ↗
The soul does not eat, yet bread keeps it in the body.
The sages compared God filling the world to the soul filling the body (Berakhot 10a), though the author warns that no likeness truly fits. Still, the soul neither eats nor drinks, yet it stays joined to the body only through food. In the same way, God's essence is untouched by our deeds. But He willed that His bond with the worlds, which are arranged like one great human form, depend on Israel's Torah, commandments and prayer. These are the worlds' food, and without them He would withdraw and they would cease. Prayer at its set time is the chief food of the worlds and of one's own soul.
