מעין מים חייםPalace on Living Water
ma'ayan mayim chayimIn Gamatria ↗
He struck rock for a palace and found a spring.
R. Rechumai's parable: a king wanted to build his palace on hard rock. As he cut and quarried, a great spring of living water burst out. Since he now had flowing water, the king said, he would plant a garden and delight in it himself, together with the whole world. The verse is Proverbs 8:30, where Wisdom, read as the Torah, was God's daily delight for two thousand years before creation. Section 23 retells it: the king could find no spring for the tree he meant to plant, so he dug one first. Then the tree took root and bore fruit.
