ki-dimyon mafte'chotThe divine names in Gamatria ↗

Not the one who mentions My name, but the one who knows it.

Gikatilla wrote the book for a student who asked about the divine names. He first turns him away from using names for magic, then gives him what he should seek: an understanding of each name in the Torah (Ehyeh, Yah, YHVH, Adonai, El, Elohim, Shaddai, Tzevaot). Each name works like a key to a particular need. Psalm 91 says 'for he knows My name', not 'for he mentions it', so knowledge comes first. Whoever prays with his mind on the name his need depends on is answered, as Jacob prayed to El Shaddai, Daniel to Adonai, and Hannah to YHVH Tzevaot.
