ונהר יוצא מעדןThe River from Eden

ve-nahar yotze me-edenIn Gamatria ↗

The garden drinks from a spring no eye has seen.

Chokhmah, the divine name Yah, is the Torah's Eden: the spring where Thought first spreads out and from which all the sefirot appear. The river that goes out from Eden is Binah. The garden it waters is Malkhut, reached through the six sefirot of the letter vav. Below the garden the world divides into four heads, the four camps of the Shekhinah. 'He planted a garden in Eden' means the garden's roots, from the final heh, reach through the vav up to the first heh and drink from the yod. 'Mi-kedem' (from the east, or from before) points to the yod's tip, the Crown. Adam lived in the garden, not in Eden.
