The vessels fell; their lights stayed close enough to keep them alive.

The breaking struck the vessels, not the lights. The seven kings' vessels fell to where the world of Beriah would later stand. Their lights dropped only a little and stayed in Atzilut, shining from afar on their fallen vessels so that these would not die beyond hope. A light can reach no more than three levels down. The back sides of Abba and Imma (Father and Mother) fell too, but within Atzilut, so they were 'nullified' rather than dead. With their children gone, the pair turned back to back. From the dross of the eleven fallen aspects came the shells, the 'eleven spices of incense'.
