What rises from below calls down what is above.

Just as the male gives 'masculine waters' from his mind, the female raises 'feminine waters' (mayin nukvin) from hers, and from both the offspring, souls, are formed. All feminine waters are judgments, and they are the kings who died in Edom. Those kings were made in order to die, the text says, so that there would be free choice and reward. Notes later in the gate add more. Sparks not yet sifted can be raised only through root souls such as the Ten Martyrs. Every soul sifts some by its deeds. The prayers of the righteous add new light in Atzilut every day.
