The first reader: the letters bound upon his tongue.
The book closes by naming its first student. When Abraham came, he looked, saw, understood and probed, then engraved and hewed, and creation succeeded in his hands. This is read from "the souls they had made in Haran" (Genesis 12:5). The Master of all appeared to him, sat him in His lap, kissed his head, called him "My beloved", and made a covenant with him and his descendants. The covenant lay between the ten fingers of his hands, the covenant of the tongue, and his ten toes, circumcision, echoing 1:3. God bound the twenty-two letters to his tongue: He drew them in water, kindled them in fire, stirred them with breath, burned them in seven and led them in twelve constellations.
