II1:2–4
עשר ספירות בלימהTen Sefirot of Belimah
eser sefirot belimahIn Gamatria ↗
Ten, not nine; ten, not eleven.
The ten sefirot (literally "countings") are called belimah. The text also spells this bli mah, "without what", meaning without substance. Read from a root meaning to restrain, it can also mean "closed". Next to them stand twenty-two foundation letters: three mothers, seven doubles and twelve simples. The ten match the ten fingers, five against five, with a single covenant set in the middle: in the tongue (milah means both word and circumcision) and in the flesh. The text insists on ten, not nine and not eleven. The reader should understand with wisdom, test and probe, and set the Creator back in His place.
