XVIPart II, Lesson 112
אם אתה מאמין שיכולין לקלקלBelieve You Can Repair
im atah ma'amin she-yekholin lekalkelIn Gamatria ↗
If you believe you can break it, believe you can mend it.
One of the shortest lessons in the book, a single sentence. It was said to encourage someone who had fallen into despair over all the damage his deeds had done. R. Nachman answered: if you believe that it is possible to damage, believe that it is possible to repair. The logic turns guilt into hope. The faith that takes your actions seriously enough to fear their harm has to take their power to mend just as seriously. It sums up a theme that runs all through Part II: no fall is final.
