Every wandering soul has a place waiting in the field.

The lesson opens with Boaz telling Ruth not to glean in another field. R. Nachman describes a field too beautiful to put into words, where trees and grasses grow; they are holy souls. Many bare souls wander outside it, waiting to be repaired so they can come back in. All of them wait for the master of the field, who must be very great to take this on. He waters and raises the trees and spaces them so that none crowds out another. When the souls bear fruit his eyes shine, a 'field of watchers.' When they do not, his eyes darken: a 'field of weepers.'
