The last word of a prayer still holding the first.
Every word is a whole world. Praying is like walking through a field, picking flowers one at a time into a bouquet, then another, and binding them together: letter to letter, word to word, blessing to blessing. As each word goes out, it begs the soul not to leave it. So the whole prayer should be one: still standing in the first word when you reach the last. That oneness is the final purpose, which is all good. Seen from there, even suffering is not bad. That is why, R. Nachman says, people in pain shut their eyes tight: to look far off, toward that purpose.
