XIPart II, Lesson 25

ההתבודדות היא מעלה עליונהSpeaking Alone with God

ha-hitbodedut hi ma'alah elyonahIn Gamatria ↗

One hour, alone, in your own words.

Hitbodedut, prayer in seclusion, is higher than everything else. Set aside at least an hour every day, alone in a room or a field, to pour out your heart to your Maker with arguments, pleas and coaxing words, asking to be brought close. Use the language you actually speak, which for his listeners was Yiddish, because the heart follows familiar words more easily than Hebrew. If the words won't come, simply standing ready and wanting to speak is already good, and you can plead about that very silence. He adds: turn the Torah you learn into prayer.
