XIVPart II, Lesson 78:1–7
אין שום יאוש בעולם כללNo Despair at All

Even at the bottom of the deepest pit, despair has no place.
Torah is life, yet no one, not even a great scholar, can cling to it every moment. In those hours even the true tzaddik becomes a plain, simple person. Then he lives from the Torah hidden in the ten utterances of creation, the free gift that kept the world alive before Sinai, and through him all simple people draw life from it. So no one may despair. Even someone in the lowest pit should cry out 'from the belly of Sheol' (Jonah 2:3). Here R. Nachman spoke in Yiddish, drawing the words out with great force: there is no despair in the world at all.
