One who counts what he is given cannot stay idle.

Zeal is gained by the same means as watchfulness, since the two are close: one guards against the prohibitions, the other does the commandments. Once a person grasps how great the mitzvot are and how much he owes, his heart wakes to serve. What strengthens this most is to look at the many kindnesses God does for him every hour, from birth to his last day. He cannot repay them, so at least he can thank Him and keep His commands. The rich and healthy owe for wealth and health. The poor man is fed by wonders and not left to starve. The sick man is held up under his illness and not let down to the grave. The same three levels apply: duty for the complete, the world to come for the lesser, this world's needs for everyone.
