דומה לפרוזדורThe Corridor

This world is the corridor; the hall lies beyond the door.

Piety begins with knowing clearly one's duty in this world. The Sages teach that man was created to delight in God and enjoy the radiance of His presence. That delight belongs to the world to come. This world is a corridor before it (Avot 4:16), and the mitzvot, which can only be done here, are the way through. Wealth and poverty, ease and suffering are all tests. This world cannot be the goal: seventy years of pain, then death. The soul, higher than the angels, finds no rest in its pleasures, like a king's daughter married to a villager. If a person is drawn after the world, the world is spoiled with him; if he uses it to serve, it rises with him. So weigh each mitzvah like gold, and be drawn to God like iron to a magnet.
