גן המבוכהThe Garden Maze

Trust the one who already stands at the center of the maze.
Watchfulness needs two looks: at what is truly good and bad, and at whether one's deeds are good or bad, while acting and at set times after. The Talmud says a person should 'search' his deeds; some say 'feel' them. Searching finds the forbidden acts. Feeling, as one feels cloth for weak spots, tests even good deeds for a mixed motive. Weigh your ways daily, as merchants check their accounts. 'Come, let us make the world's reckoning' (Bava Batra 78b) is said by those who rule their inclination. This world is like night: it hides obstacles, and worse, it makes a pillar look like a man and evil look good. Ramchal's parable is a garden maze. Inside, no one can tell true paths from false. One standing on the central pavilion sees every path and calls, 'This is the way.'
