כחוט השערהWeighed to a Hair
ke-ḥut ha-se'arahIn Gamatria ↗
Small deeds are weighed with great ones; nothing is overlooked.
Watchfulness comes from Torah, and from weighing how exact judgment is. Ramchal gives three wake-up calls. The complete see that only perfection is worth wanting, so they never cut back on its means; at its height this becomes fear of sin. Lesser people care about honor. Some say a small share in Eden is enough, yet here they cannot bear to see a servant raised above them, and there the ranks are set by deeds, forever. For everyone, there is judgment. God is exact with His pious ones 'to a hair's breadth' (Yevamot 121b). Abraham was faulted for 'How shall I know,' Jacob for his anger at Rachel, Joseph for asking the cupbearer's help, David for calling Torah 'songs.' Small deeds are weighed along with great ones. Whoever says God lets things go, his own life is let go.
