וכל היצא מגפן הייןEverything from the Vine

ve-khol ha-yotze mi-gefen ha-yayinIn Gamatria ↗

Whoever is denied the wine keeps away from the vine.

Next come forbidden relations, where all that comes near the act is forbidden: 'Do not come near to uncover nakedness.' The Midrash compares it to the nazirite. Forbidden only wine, he may not eat grapes, fresh or dried, or anything from the vine. So a woman not one's own may not be touched at all. The nazirite teaches the Sages how to build fences. The guard covers every sense: deed, sight, speech, hearing and even thought. Foul speech is the nakedness of speech; one who says it is only a joke is repeating the evil inclination. Third come forbidden foods. They enter the body and become flesh of its flesh, and they dull the heart. A hair's breadth separates a valid slaughter from an invalid one. Treat a doubt of forbidden food as you would a doubt of poison.
