שכירות מכירה ליומהHours Sold for the Day

sekhirut mekhirah le-yomahIn Gamatria ↗

A hired hour belongs to the one who paid for it.

Cleanliness has as many details as the 365 prohibitions. Ramchal takes the common stumbles, starting with theft, which the soul craves. Few steal openly, yet most taste theft in business by allowing themselves to profit from another's loss. Whatever leads to theft is forbidden too: R. Yehudah barred a shopkeeper from handing children nuts to draw them in. A hired worker's hours are sold for the day. Abba Hilkiah would not return a greeting while at work. Taking such time is theft, and a mitzvah done in it turns the defender into an accuser. One may show a buyer an item's true quality but not hide its faults; old vessels may not be polished to look new. The eyes draw the heart to seek permissions. Job's heart did not follow his eyes, so nothing clung to his hands.
