חסד דין רחמיםKindness, Judgment, Mercy

chesed, din, rachamimIn Gamatria ↗

One hand gives, one hand weighs; the middle path holds both.

God governs in three modes: pure kindness, pure judgment, and a middle way called mercy, and the ten sefirot are graded along this scale. Keter gives even to the unworthy. Chesed rewards only the deserving; Gevurah punishes the guilty; Tiferet balances them, leaning toward kindness. Netzach is kindness mixed with judgment — the righteous pay small debts now for lasting good — and Hod the reverse. Endlessly patient Keter is called Arich Anpin, 'long-suffering'; the six from Chesed to Yesod, which answer human deeds, are Zeir Anpin, 'short-tempered'.
