Every light you see is borrowed; the lender never sleeps.

The book opens on a line from the Zohar (Bereshit 11b): the root of fear is to fear one's Master because He is 'great and ruler', the root of all worlds, before whom everything counts as nothing. Every creature lives only from His flow. If that flow stopped for a moment, all the worlds would vanish, the way a tree lives only through its root. The Name runs through every world as the soul runs through every limb, and before the Cause of Causes even the brightest lights go dark (Tikkunei Zohar).
