XVIIIGate of Humility 6:1–3

עקב ענוה יראת ה׳Humility's Heel Is Awe

ekev anavah yirat hashemIn Gamatria ↗

Climb down far enough and you arrive at awe.

Removing anger is not enough; humility has many rungs. 'The heel of humility is the fear of the Lord' (Proverbs 22:4): awe stands at the end of humility's ladder, as the heel at the end of the body. The first rungs are the four traits of Avot 4:1 — wise is one who learns from everyone, mighty one who masters his impulse, rich one content with his lot, honored one who honors others — which de Vidas matches to the four letters of the Name. So the book ends where it began, in awe.
