Love of God should take a person over the way a lover's longing fills every thought. De Vidas retells a story from R. Isaac of Acre: an idler longed for a princess, who told him it could happen only 'in the graveyard', where all are equal. He took her at her word and sat among the graves, his mind fixed on her alone. Stripped of everything else, his longing slowly turned toward God, and he became a holy man whose blessing travelers sought.
