האור לעולם הוא קשור בשרשוLight Bound to Its Root

Call it light only because light never leaves its source.

The fifth principle: God is no body and no power in a body. Many in Yehoyada's day picture God as a great, pure light and think that is not bodily. It is. Light is the finest thing the senses know, but it is physical. Citing the Ari's Mevo She'arim, he explains that imagination can picture only matter; the intellect alone grasps form. In kavvanah one may picture the letters of a name for a sefirah, but for Ein Sof nothing at all. Why then do kabbalists call the sefirot 'lights'? Because light never stands apart from its source. Cut a tree and dry wood remains; close the window and the room's light is gone at once. Light also passes through colored glass unchanged, and gives to each body as it can receive.
