shi'ur komahIn Gamatria ↗
One soul, many limbs: the change is in the vessels.
Shaltiel balks at the name Adam Kadmon: adam comes from earth, and kadmon suggests something without beginning. Yehoyada cites the Ari: it is 'primordial' only because it precedes the other emanations, and it had a beginning. Adam names the soul; the body is its garment. Then Shaltiel admits that the Shi'ur Komah, the measured stature of the Creator, has troubled him all his life. Rav Sherira and Rav Hai said it is not literal. Ibn Ezra and Maimonides already call the world a great man with God as its soul. The kabbalists mean a spiritual stature: Ein Sof, through Adam Kadmon, enlivens Atzilut as a soul does a body. A hand without life does nothing. The soul in hand and eye is one; seeing and touching differ by the organ. So change lies in the vessels, never in the light.
