סתרי תורהSecrets the Talmud Names

sitrei TorahIn Gamatria ↗

The Talmud itself speaks of what the Ancient One covered.

Shaltiel asks where the Talmud ever says the Torah has secrets. Yehoyada cites Pesachim 119a, which reads 'for covering the ancient' as the things the Ancient of Days covered, the secrets of the Torah. Chagigah 13a gives them only to one who has five qualities. Rashi names them: the Work of Creation, the Work of the Chariot, Sefer Yetzirah. Tosafot, quoting Rabbenu Tam, ties the Work of Creation to the 42-letter name. Ramban says it is known only by tradition from Moses. Shaltiel offers the Rambam, who explained these subjects in his code. Yehoyada answers that the Rambam himself admits, in the Guide, that he had no teacher here and reasoned it out, so it may be otherwise. A conjecture cannot outweigh a received testimony, and many sages rejected his reading.
