All of it the quill's, all of it the hand's.
Shaltiel asks for the order of descent. Ein Sof alone creates something from nothing. His one direct act is the Keter of Adam Kadmon; from it branch Chokhmah, Binah and the worlds. Shaltiel objects that this leaves Ein Sof only one act. No, says Yehoyada: a sefirah acting on its own power would be dualism. Then, Shaltiel presses, does Ein Sof do part of each act and the sefirah the rest? The whole act is His and the whole is the sefirah's: His as true cause, the sefirah's as a tool. A scribe's writing is all the quill's and all the hand's, and behind the hand stand tendons, nerves and finally the soul. Shaltiel concedes. He bows and kisses Yehoyada, the people at the gate bless God, and the First Dialogue ends: 'God will be one and His name one.'
