ואברהם זקן בא בימיםCame With His Days

ve-Avraham zaken ba ba-yamimIn Gamatria ↗

At the end your days come forward, if they can.

The Midrash says some have old age without days, some days without old age, but Abraham had both. Plainly, long life and good days. Kaidanover gives a deeper reading from his teacher R. Yudel of Kovel, by way of the Zohar on Jacob, whose 'days drew near to die': when a person dies, all his days come before God to be counted. A righteous man's days, each filled with Torah and good deeds, come crowned and draw near; the wicked man's days hide in shame, and he is judged for the missing ones. Then the Zohar's reading of Jonah: the soul goes down into the body like a dove into a ship; illness is the storm, the captain is the voice that rouses him to confess, the fish is the grave. Say 'Bless the Lord, my soul' each day.
