כתנות אורGarments of Light

kotnot orIn Gamatria ↗

Skin was the garment of the fall; light, of return.

The Midrash says that where the Torah has 'garments of skin' (or with ayin), R. Meir's scroll read 'garments of light' (or with alef). Why his? Kaidanover answers with teachings from R. Heshel Tzoref. Tzefo, grandson of Esau, is the first of the husks, and his name equals 176, as does 'Poland'. The hidden letters of Ḥavah give 408, the year 5408 (1648), when tens of thousands in Poland and Lithuania were killed for God's name. R. Meir, said to descend from Nero, began repairing Esau's ayin, so his scroll already had the alef. In the massacres many Torah scrolls burned; their letters flew up, and the husks lost their hold. He closes in comfort: the Temple above will come down with walls of silver, gold, gems and fire, and all will wear garments of light.
