פרורי פתCrumbs from the Altar

perurei patIn Gamatria ↗

Gather the crumbs, and poverty loses its lodging.

Rashi says the command to tend the burnt offering is urged most where there is loss of money. Why here? The evening prayer stands for the limbs that slipped off the altar and were put back at night. The Zohar says their smoke bent north, where the Other Side fed and did not accuse. The Shelah compares bread crumbs, above all from the loaf of blessing, to those fallen limbs: do not throw them on the ground. Lilith is 480, the letters of 'bread' (pat) reversed, and she rules over poverty. The Talmud tells of a demon of poverty who stalked a man careful with crumbs. Once crumbs fell into the grass where he ate. He dug up the clod and threw it into the river, and a voice cried, 'Woe, he drove me out of my house.'
