נר של מצוהA Mitzvah Candle

A mitzvah's flame outlasts its wax.
The Hasmoneans found one flask sealed with the high priest's ring, oil for a day, and it burned eight days until pure oil could be made. Lights lit for a mitzvah are dear to God, Kaidanover says, and if we merited the holy spirit a mitzvah candle would prophesy. The Maharshal wrote that through a mitzvah candle the gates of light were opened to him. Kaidanover's teacher explained: while writing his Yam Shel Shlomo he had only a small stub near its end, and it burned longer than three or four whole candles. So keep what remains of a mitzvah candle for holy use. Angels gather around every blessing and answer amen; 'amen' and 'angel' share the number 91. The shamash stands above the Hanukkah lights like the seraphim, so do not play cards by its light.
