שבועת שואThe Lid Over the Deep
shevu'at shavIn Gamatria ↗
One false oath, and the seal over the deep must be recut.
The Talmud says wild beasts come to the world for vain oaths. Kaidanover reads the beast as Lilith, who lodges in a house where false oaths are common, harms small children and brings poverty. He cites the Zohar on Yitro. When God sent the waters down into the deep, He sealed them under a cover engraved with holy names. A false oath makes the waters rise until the letters fly off. Then God signals the angel Yaazriel, keeper of seventy keys, to engrave the names again. Woe to one who makes his Maker engrave anew. A false oath never returns empty. Before swearing, picture the verse 'the Lord will not hold him guiltless' in black fire on white. A handshake pledge is like an oath, because the soul rests in the palm: 'my soul is always in my hand.'
