השלחן והאמהThe Tailor's Table

Let your table and your ruler speak for you.
Some things hold back a prayer. A dirty body is one: when David cut the corner of Saul's robe, it was Saul's prayer garment, taken off before he relieved himself, so careful men leave their coats outside the privy. Sha'atnez is another, even worn unknowingly, and the tailor bears the blame. A third is a garment not clean of theft, as when an artisan is underpaid. Kaidanover scolds tailors who keep leftover cloth, doing two wrongs: spoiling the garment and stealing. He saw a tailor in Brisk of Lithuania who, before he died, asked the burial society to build his coffin from his work table and put his measuring ell in his hand. The table and the ell would testify, two faithful witnesses, that he never stole.
