נשמות הנדחיןSouls in the Trees

A true prayer rises, and lost souls ride up with it.
Loving your neighbor, Kaidanover says, includes warning him of what awaits the soul. The Ari's students reported that the air is full of banished souls that cannot yet reach their rest. Once, teaching in a field, the Ari saw every tree, the field and the water crowded with them. They had been pushed outside the heavenly curtain for not repenting and for keeping others from repenting, and had heard a proclamation that a righteous man on earth could repair them. A tzaddik's prayer, or a poor man's, rises in a great flame, and such souls wrap themselves in it and rise with it (Psalms 102:1). From a hill above Safed the Ari saw hosts of souls rising each Sabbath eve. So pray for others too: Beruriah taught that sins should end, not sinners.
