תרין דמעין לגו ימא רבאTwo Tears into the Sea

terein dim'in le-go yamma rabbaIn Gamatria ↗

At midnight God weeps, and the rooster wakes the world.

The night has three watches, and at each God roars like a lion over His ruined house (Berakhot 3a). Kaidanover follows the Zohar: in the first watch angels sing 'Who may ascend the mountain of God,' and the souls of the righteous gather on the Temple Mount to rise. In the second the angels weep 'By the rivers of Babylon,' and God, grieving for the Temple and for every martyr, lets two tears fall into the great sea. A flame spreads, and a spark lands under the rooster's wing; it beats its wings as if to cool itself, and crows. At midnight God enters the Garden to delight with the righteous; at dawn the stars and the sun sing. Whoever cannot study, Kaidanover says, should rise, pray, and mourn the Temple.
