Every power holds its post until the word moves it.

Providence has two sides: God's knowledge, which misses nothing past, present or future, and His influence, the way His will reaches action. He sustains every being directly, yet carries out His decrees through an ordered descent: He influences an angel, that angel the one below it, until the last acts in the physical world. Each appointee is made to hold its post stubbornly. Ramchal's example: the angel over trees strives to keep its trees standing, but when a decree goes out, the angel of the wind is strengthened and trees are uprooted. Throughout, God steers everything toward the perfection of the whole.
