Perfect goodness can only give itself.

The purpose of creation was that God wished to do good to another. Since only He is truly perfect, a small kindness would not satisfy that wish; a perfect giver gives the utmost, which is His own goodness. Yet that goodness can exist nowhere but in Him. So His wisdom arranged that creatures would be given room to cleave to Him (devekut) as far as they are able, and through that attachment share, by degree, in a perfection they could never possess on their own. Creation exists so that someone can enjoy His good in whatever measure is possible for it.
