Wealth and want alike are questions put to you.

Good and evil come in many particular traits: humility and pride, compassion and cruelty, contentment and its opposite. For each to be tested, humanity needs varied conditions; without rich and poor there would be no room for mercy or for cruelty. The rich man is tested whether he will be merciful or arrogant, the poor whether he will be content and give thanks. The Supreme Wisdom divides these trials among people as a king allots tasks among his servants, so that each has a particular share of the struggle and is judged exactly by the load given him. Success and trouble alike are tests.
