Wise, willing, able, and yet one undivided light.
Ramchal opens with six root principles every Jew must know: that God exists, is perfect, exists necessarily, depends on nothing else, is simple, and is one. He dwells longest on simplicity. In a person, memory, will and imagination are separate faculties, each with its own domain. In God, wisdom, will and power are not parts added to His essence but one undivided reality that contains every perfection. Ramchal concedes that our imagination, built from the created world, can barely picture this; it is known by tradition, yet reasoning confirms that something beyond all limit and composition must exist as the cause of everything.
