Some knowledge is climbed; some is given.

Natural understanding works by observing what is revealed and reasoning toward what is hidden. Above it God established bestowed understanding: an influx from Him, through intermediaries, that fixes knowledge in the mind clearly, without doubt or error, together with its causes and consequences. This is ruach ha-kodesh, divine inspiration, which can grasp even future and hidden things. Higher still is prophecy, whose essence is not information but attachment: the prophet truly cleaves to God while still alive and perceives what he cleaves to, His glory, as surely as anything he senses, with knowledge of deep mysteries following.
