נר ה׳ נשמת אדםThe Candle of God

It would go out just to be home.
'The soul of man is the candle of God.' A flame always strains upward, wanting to leave the wick and rejoin its root in fire, even though it would go out. The soul is like that: by its nature it longs to leave the body and dissolve into God, even to cease to exist as itself. This 'nature' runs above reason, from Chokhmah. In those who sin, the love is covered as if by a sackcloth of the husk and lies asleep. A test of faith wakes it.
