Two crowns, one small city, and every street contested.

The animal soul lives in the heart's left chamber, which is full of blood; its desires spread from there and rise to the brain. The divine soul lives in the brain and in the heart's right chamber. The body is a 'small city', and the two souls are like two kings at war over it, each wanting to rule its citizens. The divine soul wants to fill every limb, every thought, word and deed, until its love floods even the left side and turns the animal soul's craving into delight in God.
