A long road and a short one, both ending inside you.

The whole book is built on one verse: 'the thing is very near to you, in your mouth and in your heart, to do it'. The title page promises to show how it is near 'by a long and short way'. Turning the heart is hard, and the text says so, so what does 'near' mean? The love meant here is the quiet inner will that leads to doing the commandments. Anyone can reach it, because the mind is in a person's control: by contemplating God's greatness, it can always produce at least that love.
