המוח שליט על הלבThe Mind Rules the Heart
hamo'ach shalit al halevIn Gamatria ↗
A little light; the dark withdraws on its own.
Why can the beinoni hold the line? Because, the text says, a person is built so the mind rules the heart: by will, anyone can refuse to act, speak or dwell on what the heart craves, and can turn attention to its opposite. It cites Ecclesiastes: wisdom surpasses folly as light surpasses darkness. A little light drives off much darkness without a fight. When a bad thought rises from heart to brain, the beinoni pushes it away 'with both hands'. He answers resentment with kindness instead of payback.
