השכל הוא קנייןDesire, Not Intellect
ha-sechel hu kinyanIn Gamatria ↗
The mind is what we gather; the wanting is who we are.
Our essence is will — not the self-centered desire we feel now, but its eternal form in Ein Sof, receiving to please the Maker. Ashlag rejects the philosophers who called the soul intellect, surviving by what it knows: anyone who has studied knows the mind is acquired, not the one who acquires. Desire breeds needs, and needs breed thought. People differ in how they mix three desires — bodily appetite, human cravings like honor and power, and knowledge. What the soul learned is its reward, not its self.
