בעתה אחישנהTorah or Suffering

be-itah achishenahIn Gamatria ↗

The destination is fixed; only the road is ours.

If the end is certain, is there free choice? Yes — of the road. Two paths lead to the third state: Torah and mitzvot, or suffering, which scours the body until it turns toward giving. The sages read 'in its time, I will hasten it': if worthy, He hastens it; if not, it comes in its time. Suffering reaches only the body's shell, and it shows how harmful self-love is. Were everyone to want only to give to others, worry and harm would end — so the mitzvot between people come first.
